From API to Analytics

Spend less time on configuring REST and SOAP connections by putting Datacoat between the API and your analytics tool like PowerBI or QlikSense.

Datacoat works by scheduling Postman collections. It the exposes a single endpoint to fetch the end result with your analytics tool.

Why should you learn another tool?
Analytics tools such as PowerBI or QlikSense always have built in connectors to load data from REST API:s and other web sources. However, they are not always easy to use.

Are you struggling with
  • Time consuming REST integration
  • Complex requests requiring multiple API calls
  • OAuth authentication
  • SOAP API:s

If that's the case, it is time to make the switch to Datacoat.

Postman is made for API developers that spend their whole working day testing queries and debugging JSON. It is  more ergonomic to work with than the built-in connectors in your analytics tool. It is freely available at https://www.postman.com/downloads/  .

In Postman it is possible to chain queries together in "Collections", which can be exported as files. Small snippets of Javascript are used to assign response data to Postman variables, enabling auth tokens and filter information to be passed from query to query. Collections can be exported as files.

Datacoat works by storing a Postman collection file, and running the collection at an interval scheduled by you. Datacoat then exposes a single REST endpoint where the response from the last request in the collection can be loaded, using a simple API key authentication.
Behind the scenes, Datacoat works by using the open-source newman software https://github.com/postmanlabs/newman . This also helps to reduce the vendor lock-in of your data pipeline, enabling a fallback if you would not like to use Datacoat anymore.

This approach will minimize the time you spend loading data, and give you more time to think about what your users need.
Postman has built-in support for many technologies used in API:s, such as OAuth, certificates or WSDL-files for SOAP API:s.
